¶ Tracking Points and Quantity
¶ What's the difference between 5-point / 6-point / 8-point / 10-point configurations?
- Extra tracking points beyond
6-pointcan be freely assigned to other body parts you need. - More tracking points provide more joints and more detailed tracking effects. Most players choose:
8-point 5-pointis the minimum requirement,6-pointprovides more stable tracking,8-pointcan provide foot tracking, and10-pointcan provide more precise tracking for your arms.
¶ Can I add more tracking points later? Can different models be mixed?
- Yes, but this will incur additional shipping costs, and later added tracking points will be slightly more expensive than package prices.
- Different models of Slime can generally be mixed, but the combined tracking performance will be affected by the weakest link and approximate the lowest-performing model. For the best overall experience, it is still recommended to use the same model throughout.
¶ Device Compatibility
¶ Can Quest 2 / 3, PICO 3 / 4, VIVE, Valve Index etc. devices be used?
- Most use cases of this device run through SteamVR, compatible with VR devices that support SteamVR streaming.
- MINI Series products: Connect to the computer via a wireless receiver with
USB Type-Ainterface, communicate wirelessly through the receiver. No separate network configuration is needed, but using through walls is not recommended. - Special application scenarios such as standalone motion capture data output must be used together with VR headset, Slime cannot/should not be used alone. SlimeVR supports exporting
BVHformat motion capture data, but we do not guarantee special application scenarios outside of VRChat PC streaming environment.
¶ After purchasing Slime hardware, can I achieve full-body tracking?
- Strictly speaking, not exactly. When playing VRChat, you still need a VR device to provide the 3-point basic positioning for head and hands. Slime devices can only provide auxiliary positioning through sensor data plus algorithm computation, simulating other joint positions more precisely, while the original spatial coordinates still need to be provided by the VR device.
- Additionally, you need a wireless network supporting the
2.4GHzfrequency band (wireless network is only required for Classic series products; MINI series uses a receiver and does not require separate network configuration), forming a connected LAN environment with the computer / OSC device or application. (Campus network or other network environments are special cases.) - If you have not yet purchased a VR device, we recommend purchasing and playing VRChat through your VR device for a while before considering buying this device.
¶ Do I need to deploy base stations?
- Slime trackers do not require deploying tracking base stations. MINI series uses a dedicated receiver for connection.
¶ Can MINI series products connect via WiFi without using the receiver?
- WiFi connection is not supported. The receiver must be used.
¶ Environmental Compatibility
¶ Can I use it on a campus network?
- MINI series uses an independent receiver and does not require network configuration. As long as you can normally use VRChat through PC streaming, it should work fine.
¶ Are there any requirements for magnetic field environments?
- In general environments where you do not enable the
BNO085magnetometer function, there is no hard requirement for magnetic field environments. The magnetometer function is disabled by default and is not recommended to enable under normal circumstances. ICM45686-NRF(not yet supported) andLSM6DSVdo not support magnetometer function.- The magnetometer function is a compromise solution from the old era for tracking performance. Now with better IMUs used for Slime full-body tracking, the magnetometer function is no longer needed.
¶ Are there any requirements for occlusion?
- Slime devices are positioned through IMU sensors and do not require base stations. Therefore, under normal circumstances, occlusion by objects such as
blanketsorclothinghas no significant impact on tracking. - For MINI series
ICM45686-NRFusing dedicated receiver connection, please try to ensure use in the same room as the receiver, and minimize occlusion as much as possible.
¶ Carrying and Transportation
¶ Can SF Express be used for shipping?
- Products containing batteries cannot be mailed as air freight within mainland China, so SF Air Express is not supported. When using land express, there is no significant difference in transportation efficiency.
¶ Can I carry it on an airplane?
- Specific policies depend on the local airport management, and there is currently no definitive data. If you need to know battery capacity and other parameters, you can read: Product Parameters
¶ When using third-party cross-border transit warehouses, can I choose air shipping?
- Products containing batteries are not supported for air freight in most cross-border transit warehouses. When placing orders, please do not choose air shipping; choose sea freight instead. Otherwise, your package may be forcibly returned, and you may bear additional costs and time.
